23: Casting

This is Fergus, we are using him in our video, because he is the perfect aged young child. He as 2 years old, and is very keen to star in our film.

This is Yasmin Basan, she is 17 and will be our dancer. She is keen and enthusiastic, and is able to sing along to a song which she will be lip syncing to. Yaz loves to dress up, so this is the perfect opportunity to do so and release here inner core.

This is Niona, she is a good swimmer, and a good actor. This is why we picked her, as she will need to do both these things in our video.

22. Location Planning

Below are all the locations that I am going to use to film our video. We have tried to make them really varied, this should help keep the viewer gripped:

This is the swimming pool which we are going to use for the underwater shot. We have chosen this location, because the water is clear, and it is easily accessaible to us. Also, one of my friends is a lifeguard here, as we will need one to film in the water.

This is where the chorus person will be dancing; when not dancing with the lights and the black background.
The Chorus person will be lying lip syncing in the leaves.
We have chosen to film the main section of the chorus in the theatre, as it has a perfect big black certain, this will be great to use as a background for dancing, and to attach some little lights onto for effect.
We shall use this corridor for the child to crawl down towards the camera.
This is the TV that we will use for the infinity effect, the curtain on the right will be pulled back, and the camera will be closer with the room darker.

21. Shooting Script

Most of the shots in this will be for the whole sound and could fit in anywhere but there will be some particular shots
The first shot will be a stop-motion very short title sequence
Then it could include the dancers that will be lit by black light and will be wearing florescent clothing this will vary in speed and will be synced up with the song
The next shot will be a very short shot of the mother then a longer steadier one of the babe maybe on a toy in a corridor kind of like the long steady cam shot of the boy in the shining
The next lip syncing bit will be with the mother maybe with a green screen behind her or woods.
There will be a series of time lapses at certain points in the video
In certain points there will be underwater shots , possibly lip syncing and slow-motion shots of the mother jumping in reverse in/out the pool
Another shot will include the mother and the child with the mother spinning the child in slow mo possibly in the leaves
In another section a tv behind will display the image of the actor slightly behind in time of the image of the real actor playing a wave type effect.

20. Animatic

Here is our animatic for our music video. It is very rough, but we will be following this layout.

19. Planning 5 sections to my video, make storyboard from them.

The first section is of the child, we shall see him crawling towards the camera, and also playing with toys.
Then there will be dancers dressed in odd clothes with crazy makeup, they will be dancing with a mic and a black background.
This scene will be of the singer singing outside in woods with leaves around.
After that there will be some underwater lip syncing.
The final significant part will be the TV infinity effect.

18. Story Plan

The intro to the song Kids is about 50 seconds long. Our plan is to shorten that down a bit, as it could end up going on too long. Once shortened we are going to build the word "KIDS" out of lego and use stop motion to bring it in.
When the lyrics come in, we will have a child crawling on the floor towards a camera, with a green screen in the backgroound. We will then edit with loads of colours and shapes.
On the words "Makin Mama so proud" this is where we shall see the mother of the child smiling at the baby.
We then reach our first chorus, with this we shall have a black background with someone dancing, with many lights flashing on and off. The dancers will lipsyncing some of the words.
In the third verse ("The water is warm...") we shall have a camera underwater, we shall film lipsyncing, or if that does not work, a red cloth underwater.
We shall then have a flash cut from the water too the mother standing in fromt of a TV with the feed on the TV coming from the camera, ie an infinity effect behind the girl on the TV.
Chorus: This will be similar to to the previous chrous, however with different camera angles and shots.
The chorus repeats after that, but this time there will be a video of the child on the floor playing with toys, nad the video will fade out.

You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward it
Making momma so proud
But your voice is too loud
We like to watch you laughing
You pick the insects off plants
No time to think of consequences

[Chorus:]
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanting to be haunted
Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wanting to be haunted

The water is warm
But it's sending me shivers
A baby is born
Crying out for attention
Memories fade
Like looking through a fogged mirror
Decisions too
Decisions are made and not bought
But I thought this wouldn't hurt a lot
I guess not

[Chorus x6]

17. Key elements in video

Our group has put forward so many ideas, we have narrowed it down to the best and most creative ideas. Our genre is clear, we will be using the green screen, face paint, a lot of special effects, colour correction and etc. This will make our video very attractive; especially the use of colour i nthe special effects, will make our video very attractive.

HERE IS A VIDEO EXPLAINING EVERYTHING I WOULD LIKE IN THE VIDEO.

MRS.BLACK YOUTUBE IS TAKING FOREVER TO UPLOAD

16. Music video production companies

Since our music video is kind of indie, our first option for to distribute our video online, would be YOUTUBE of course. Vevo on Youtube publish most of the music videos for Music Artists on Youtube.
So our first choice for distributors would be Vevo on Youtube. With internet being so easy to access, Youtube is one of the most popular ways of entertainment Today. So Youtube would be a great choice.

15. How to Attract the Perfect audience

14. Perfect Audience

The type of audience we are trying to attract are mainly teenagers and young adults, who go would go on Youtube, to search for indie-rock type of music. I would say the overall "classification" of our audience member would be similar to "Hipsters" or "Indie" style teenagers.

We are trying to aim our video at a group of teenagers with a relaxed lifestyle and a relaxed point of view on life. They would probably dress up in clothes from Topman and River Island with the new "Hype" trend going around.. I would say our perfect audience memebers would be the kind of people who would spend most of their time outdoors in the sun or the park, just chilling with friends, listening to music from Temper Trap and etc.

Here is an example of what they might wear....

13. Audience Feedback

I Asked People Over Social Media these Questions.

"Why do people choose the music they do, whether videos make a difference, what attracts people to videos and what puts them off"

Here are some replies.

12. Mood Board

We made our Mood Board look very offbeat, colourful and vintage. You can tell our mood board is very strange and surreal. Our moodboard represents the kind of style we would like to adapt in our video.

11. 9 Keys Shots - Dizzee Rascal - Love This Town ft. Teddy Sky

Shot 1- Okay so as you can clearly see in shot 1, One, Uno; That the video is clearly set somewhere in London... and that there is a Asian Dude sitting down, probably waiting for the bus like normal people do.
this just shows everyday life as it is. In the corner you can see a thug-like figure approaching the bus stop.

Shot 2- In shot two the "thug", texts all contacts with the message "RIOT!!". This shows that this will probably lead up to a riot later on in the video

Shot 3- In shot three, Dizzee Rascal pulls up a scarf to cover his face, ready for an attack

Shot 4- In shot four, it looks like on of the thugs is attacking the store.

Shot 5- In shot five, it shows that all the "thugs" are cleaning the store window and etc. This is a key shot because it plays with "Cliche", because you except the thugs to attack, whereas they are almost doing the opposite.

Shot 6- It shows the thugs entering a store, excepting them to steal some products and etc.

Shot 7- This is a good shot because, in London security camera have caught people asking for photos, and stealing items from rucksacks, but in this video they are doing the opposite. They are putting food and etc in his bag.

Shot 8- You except the police to attack the thugs, and take them off to jail. It looks like they are forming a line, ready for an attack, but later they join in on the fun.

Shot 9- This is the last shot, and its a birds eye view shot of London, with all the smoke grenades creating a heart shape.

10. Music Video analysis - HOLD ON , WE'RE GOING HOME

I don't really like this song, Drake or music within this genre, but i'm still going to analyse this video. This video is 7.02 minutes long, because the first 4 minutes consists of a very "unoriginal" plot, Set in "Miami" in 1985; where a Gangsters girlfriend (or whatever she is gets kidnapped). Whoever directed this video must have been playing over 45 hours ours of GTA straight, because i promise almost all of the elements is based on GTA; (or he just really sucks at coming up with a good solid plot)

Camera Work

The Camera work in this video is average, lots of mid shots and close ups. There is one very good shot at the beginning on the video, a bird eye view shots, looking over Miami and zooming into it. There is a low angle, over the shoulder shot int the video which i like (even thought technically its over the leg shot).

Editing

Editing in this video is also average, lots of quick cuts leading into the next shot, which probably consists of lots of guns. There is slight editing in colour correction, brightness and contrast  to make it a darker atmosphere.

Mise-en-scene

Again, lots of suits, mansions and GUNS. There are a couple of cars in this music video too and also a yellow telephone. The scene is firs set in a night club, which moves into a warehouse, then to a mansion and back to the warehouse. The video is very unoriginal.

Sound

Both Digetic and Non-Digetic. Digetic being the beats and the music in the background. Non- Digetic being The singers voice singing about his kidnapped Mistress.

10. Music Video Analysis - MAROON FIVE MEDLEY

Cinematography/ Camera Work

I think the first think you can determine in this video is the fact that this whole video is one shot. Its not a professionally filmed video, its actually made and directed by a cover artist and music producer, Kurt Hugo Schneider who mainly distributes his work on Youtube. i don't think they used a dolly for this video, so the camera-man would have to hand-held the camera.

Editing

I don't think editing plays a big role in this video, because its one shot and does not really require much editing. they must have obviously edited the video to place the song and the video together, but except for that; i don't see much elements of editing in this video.

Mise en scene

Mise-en-scene plays a huge role in this video. In this one-shot video, for each couple of lines they sing from a maroon five song, the lyrics are up somewhere. For example they are on Posters, T-shirts, Banners, Walls, T.V's, Pillows and e.t.c. This video has been directed extremely well. They use a lot of props such as instruments, hats, sunglasses, change of shirts and etc.

Sound

I would say the video in this video there is both digetic and non-digetic sound. the digetic sound being the singers Max and Victoria; and the non-digetic being all the music instruments and etc in the background.

9. Music Video Styles (Bastille)

8. Copyright for the song

We used two different ways to try to contact MGMT, or the recording company for the permission to use the song. Firstly we tried a simple email to their company.

Secondly we used social media (Twitter) to try to contact them. So we used Joseph's Twitter  account for this.

7. Key Points to consider

INTERTEXTUALITY-
This is something that would be nice but also something that could get very complicated very quickly and i don't want to make mistakes that other artists do and not do very well on this and get stuff wrong, but i think pastiche will play into our final product.

DANCE-
I think using elements of dance, but not dance routines itself will be a good addition to our final music video.

TYPOGRAPHY-
Joseph suggested adding typography into our video, i think it would be effective at some points in our video; but the typography must be attractive and well edited through "After effects".

COSTUME AND MAKE-UP-
We have considered using face paint and face make up on some of our cast; to give them a surreal look.

BLACK & WHITE V.S COLOUR-
I think instead of both colour or black and white, i think a low saturation would work extremely well in some shots in our video.

LIP SYNCING-
Lip syncing must be perfect and in-sync, or otherwise it will look very amateur and crap. So lip syncing must be 100% perfect.

LIGHTING-
As discussed in class lighting will be an easy way to make a music video look professional, i have some experience in lighting an i intend to use this in our video.

STOP MOTION AND ANIMATION-
Joseph has been working with time lapses for a while now, and i think some time- lapses would work well in our video.

CAMERA & EDITING-
These two points are the biggest factors in our video, so we must edit very professionally, to make the video perfect at the end.

6. The Track - MGMT kids

We chose this song because i feel that we would have a wide range of styles and techniques we could use for a video, for this song.  I think the meaning of the song pretty simple, talking about childhood and growing up.

4. The Beatles Star Image

The Beates started as a averagea 'boy band', When they first started out they all had different clothes and hairstyles. after they Met Brian Epstien, hey basically got beatles their trade mark look - all pre-packaged up with their identical suits and 'mop-top' hair styles. Their first songs were similarly just generic pop songs. (Don't get me wrong, I still like those first songs). But they were in the right place at the right time - and became really successful. After a while, they did in fact start experimenting with drugs like marijuana and LSD. By the time Sgt. Pepper came out, they all had mustaches and had started to develop their own individual songwriting styles. I think this devolopment was in fact a result of changing societal attitudes. People had started getting tired of 'cookie-cutter' bands and songs. The Beatles came through - with a vast amount of new and different songs.

They have been a huge influence on basically every serious musician ever since Beatlemania hit. From country, to rock, pop, classical - every music genre you can think of.

I know most of their songs - after all, I've listened to them for a while now. Everyone has their favorite Beatle, I have two, one of mine is George Harrison (RIP George). I just found his songs to be really spiritual and meaningful. His lyrics and chords are very good. If you want, look up 'All Things Must Pass' on YouTube for an example.

Another example from George is the song 'What is Life'. The video on YouTube shows a lot of pictures that show how his appearance changed. Don't let the somewhat too much trebly Indian sound deter you - listen to the lyrics. That was George - he got into the spirituality of Hinduism and it shows. That was from the post-Beatle years circa 1970-1971.

-------------------
And finally, here's a classic from the Beatle's final performance atop their Apple Records studio in England. You can really see that they have all become individual artists with their own looks, but yet they are still a great band, and you can also tell that they are having a great time playing together. It's 'Don't Let Me Down'. It's basically an anthem for me and my best friends. It's our song. I won't let them down if they need something, nor will they let me down if I need something. I'm pretty sure it's a Lennon wrote the song, but that doesn't matter. They are all obviously into it.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF BEATLES IN THE EARLY DAYS
She Loves you -

And here is an example of a their image during the "LSD" years, where their images changed drastically

I am the Walrus -

Here is an example of a song from the final album Let It Be, this video shows that each individuals of the band have become their own person, totally independent and different individuals from each other.

Let it be-
